Name the source before you use the number
Before a number influences a move decision, ask what it measures, when it was measured, whether it is national or local, whether it is a stock or live-market signal, and what it excludes.
- CPI context can describe national price movement, not your personal city basket.
- Stock-rent baselines can orient dated housing context, not today's listing market.
- Your real budget still depends on warm rent, deposit timing, income, household needs, commute, insurance, temporary overlap, and the city-region routine you actually use.
